Terms of Use

1. What Bearing is

Bearing is a personal-development tool. It provides a list of tasks organised into ranks, a way to record that another person has confirmed you completed them, and weekly reading material drawn from the book of Proverbs.

2. What Bearing is not

Bearing is not counselling, therapy, medical advice, or a mental-health service, and is not a substitute for any of them. It is not a qualification, is not accredited, and is not recognised by any employer, school or organisation. A signed "mark" has no status outside this app.

Bearing is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Scouting America, the Boy Scouts of America, any successor organisation, or any church, denomination or youth organisation.

3. No contact between users

Bearing contains no account system, no user directory, no search or discovery, no matching and no messaging. It cannot and does not put you in contact with any other person. Any relationship with a witness exists entirely outside this app and is your own responsibility.

4. Witnesses and honesty

Records in Bearing are self-maintained on your device. We do not verify witnesses, do not verify that any task was performed, and make no representation that any record in the app is accurate. The value of a signature is exactly the value of the relationship behind it.

5. Safety

Some tasks involve physical exertion, being outdoors, or changing your habits. You do them at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and for judging what is appropriate for you. If you are under 18, involve a parent or guardian. If you are in crisis, contact a professional — in the US you can call or text 988 at any hour.

6. Licence

Subject to these terms, you are granted a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use Bearing on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not reverse-engineer, redistribute or resell the app or its content.

7. Subscriptions

Bearing Full is an auto-renewing subscription offered monthly or yearly, each with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, after any free trial. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the period. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID account settings. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. Prices may vary by region.

8. Your content

Everything you enter stays on your device. You are responsible for it, including backing it up; deleting the app deletes it permanently and we cannot recover it.

9. Disclaimer and liability

Bearing is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Forma is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Scripture

Scripture quotations are from the King James Version, which is in the public domain in the United States.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
