Dating and friends for the neurodivergent. Said plainly.
Plainly is for autistic, ADHD and AuDHD adults who are done decoding. Small hosted tables in quiet places. One-on-one when you are ready, with no swiping. Double dates with your safe person. Every table and every plan card says how loud it is, how bright, how much talking, and how to leave early. Saying yes is free and stays free.
You were never bad at people. You were handed the wrong room.
Adults only. Plainly introduces people; it does not vet them. Meet in public, tell a friend, and leave whenever you like.
What it does
- Tables: small group invites near youFour to eight people, hosted by a member who picks a place they already know is calm: the board-game café, the museum in its first quiet hour, a jigsaw and snacks. Every table states the noise, the light, how much talking to expect, what it costs, and the exit plan, before you say yes.
- People: one card at a time, no swipingSay yes or pass. Both are free, neither is a judgment. Cards show what someone is here for, how they are wired, how they like to talk (“ask, don’t hint”, “slow replies are not a signal”) and what a good first meet looks like for them. Each card also gives you the script: “a good first message to me is…”.
- Pairs: double dates with your safe personPair up with a friend who is also on Plainly. Your pair says yes to other pairs in your city; when both say yes, a four-person chat opens. Nobody carries the conversation alone, and leaving together is easy.
- Plan cards instead of “so… what do you want to do?”In any chat, send a card: what, where exactly, when, how long, how loud, and how either of you can leave early. The other person can say yes with confidence instead of guessing.
- Cards that say the quiet partSensory needs and communication style go on your card once, as plain facts, so you never have to disclose under pressure or apologise at the door. Info-dumps welcome; special interests get their own line.
- Safety that does not need a speechAdults only. Block and report on every card and chat; a block hides you from each other everywhere. Tables are public places, never a home. “I am out” needs no reason.
Why this exists
The neurodivergent dating apps that already exist did something important: they proved we want to meet each other. Their members say two things over and over. First, there is nobody near me. A niche app spreads a few hundred thousand people across the whole planet, so in most cities the feed runs dry in an afternoon. Second, the swiping was never the hard part. The date was: the bar nobody could hear in, the plan that stayed vague, the two hours with no polite way out.
Plainly is built around those two complaints. Tables gather the people who are actually nearby into one place at one time, so six members in a city is a full evening instead of an empty feed. Pairs halve the courage needed to show up. And every plan states its sensory facts and its exit up front, so the meeting itself stops being the thing you have to survive.
Six people in your city is not a small number. It is a table.

Questions
Who is Plainly for?
Autistic, ADHD, AuDHD and otherwise neurodivergent adults, self-identified or diagnosed, and the friends they bring along as a safe person. Nobody is asked for paperwork. It is for dates, for friends, or for either; you say which on your card and can change it any time.
Why tables, pairs and plan cards?
Because the two things that go wrong most for us are not the swiping. First, there are never enough people nearby on a niche app, so Plainly gathers the ones who are into small hosted tables you can actually go to. Second, the date itself is the hard part: the loud bar, the unclear plan, the not knowing how to leave. So every table and every plan card states the noise, the light, how much talking, and the exit, up front.
Is saying yes free?
Yes, and it stays free. So are tables, pairs and chat. Plus adds seeing who said yes first, filters, and hosting more than one table at a time.
What is a safe person?
A friend, sibling or roommate who is also on Plainly. You pair up, and your pair can say yes to other pairs in your city. When both pairs say yes, a four-person chat opens and you plan a double date. Nobody carries the conversation alone and leaving together is easy.
How does Plainly keep people safe?
Adults only. Blocking and reporting on every card and in every chat, and a block hides you from each other everywhere. Tables are public places only, never a home. Communication and sensory needs are on the card so nobody has to disclose under pressure. Full rules are in the Terms.
What does it cost?
Nothing to meet people. Plainly Plus is $6.99 a month or $29.99 a year, billed by Apple, cancel any time.
When is it out?
Plainly is in development and has not been submitted to the App Store yet. Follow the Forma Lounge for the release note.
